The Project
Over the years, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) purchased a number of residential properties that had the potential to be displaced by a proposed extension of the 710 Freeway. With a number of these properties no longer part of the extension proposal, Calrans wanted to formalize a plan for selling the properties, and retained the services of SmartComment to help them manage public comments related to this.
What We Did
- Established a website linked to the project website to accept electronic public comments from citizens and other interested parties.
- Created a custom database to hold submitted comments and provided a digital suite of tools for the project team to easily organize, manage and respond to comments.
- Worked with the project team to establish a list of comment topics that accurately reflected the sentiments expressed in the comment period.
- Provided on-going support and training for agency staff throughout the project
The Results
SmartComment’s platform received and processed all comments related to the Caltrans proposal, giving the agency an in-depth view of public sentiment regarding the proposal and allowing them to move forward with a plan that took into account this input.
